How can I book a game at House of Tales?

Accepted Answer

Via this link you can access the booking calendar. Select your story and click on a free time slot. Then you can specify the number of players and all important information will be summarized for you again before completing the paid order. Payment can be made online when completing the order. We will inform you about rebooking and cancellation options below.

I didn't receive a booking confirmation by email. What now?

Don't worry, even in the 21st century things can go wrong. Are you not sure if your ticket order has reached us? Then please just give us a call and we can clarify everything in less than 1 minute. Sometimes it's a typo in the email address and other times the email ends up in spam. Please contact us as soon as possible so we can process your request promptly.

Question 3

Can I rebook or cancel my booking afterwards?

According to § 312g para. 2 no. 9 BGB, a withdrawal is excluded because it is a leisure activity that requires a specific date for its provision. This applies regardless of the chosen payment method.

Our goodwill arrangements:

You can cancel or rebook appointments up to 7 days before the event free of charge. Please send an email to hello@houseoftales.de with the booking number and change request.

Within 7 days up to 48 hours before the event, you can rebook free of charge or convert the ticket price into a value voucher. The value voucher is valid for 6 months. For cancellations and rebookings less than 48 hours before the start of the game, a cancellation fee of €50 per room/rally applies. The remaining amount will be converted into a value voucher.

If more than two rooms/stories have been booked, the cancellation must be made at least 14 days before the start of the game. If the deadline is not met, the ticket price for the minimum number of people for the respective booked rooms/rallies will be charged per booked room/rally.

The student rate can be adjusted up to a minimum number of 15 tickets.

All appointments booked as part of a promotion are exempt from these cancellation conditions. The respective cancellation conditions on the promotion page apply here.

Question 4

Can I bring someone else?

Accepted Answer

You can bring as many players as fit in the booked story. The possible difference can simply be paid on site.

Question 5

What happens if someone can't make it to the appointment after all?

Accepted Answer

The number of players can vary within the minimum and maximum limits of the story. The unredeemed ticket will be converted into a voucher.

Question 6

Can I book additional players if needed?

Accepted Answer

As long as the new total number of players is still within the capacity of the booked story, it's no problem to show up with more participants. The price will be adjusted on site accordingly. If you need another escape room, you can simply book one online.

Question 7

We don't know yet if we'll be 9, 10, 11 or 12 players. How should we best book?

Accepted Answer

If the number of participants is uncertain, start with the minimum number of participants and select and book the corresponding number of escape rooms online. The final price will then be adjusted on site according to the additional players. You can bring as many players as fit in the booked stories.

I received a voucher for House of Tales, how do I redeem it?

Accepted Answer

Each voucher has a specific value. This can be used for an order at House of Tales, regardless of the story or the total scope of your order. After selecting your desired appointment, in the second step of the order, you will find a free field to enter your voucher code. The voucher value will be immediately credited to your order. If the order amount exceeds the value of the voucher, you can simply balance the difference with online payment. If the order amount is lower than your voucher value, the remaining amount will be retained and you can use your voucher code for a new order. It is not possible to have the remaining amount paid out. The validity of the voucher is one year.

Which payment methods are accepted?

For online bookings, it is also possible to pay during the order via Paypal, bank transfer or EC and credit card. The desired payment method can be selected during the order. For payment on site, you can pay in cash or with EC and credit card.

When should I arrive for my appointment at House of Tales?

Accepted Answer

Each participant should be present 15 minutes before the booked time so that the game master can provide the briefing on the game procedure. Every game at House of Tales is a live event. This means the escape room is prepared for each team. Delays and postponements of the start of the game are therefore not possible. In the event of a delay on the part of the players, time may be deducted. In the event that subsequent guests are disadvantaged, the game may also be canceled by the House of Tales staff.

Is there a possibility to drink or eat something at House of Tales?

Before and after the game you can buy a selection of non-alcoholic drinks at our counter. During the games, i.e. in the escape room itself, no drinks or food are permitted.

How long does a game last?

Accepted Answer

The game duration is a maximum of 60 minutes. In addition, there is about 15 minutes briefing by the game master. It's best to plan with 90 minutes for the appointment.

What do I need to bring?

Accepted Answer

Good mood and curiosity are the most important things. If you want to pay on site, you can do so with cash, EC or credit card. If you have booked a story with an age restriction, please make sure that all players can prove their age upon request. School classes or children's birthday parties should bring a consent form for each child under 18.

Generally yes, individual children up to and including 6 years old do not pay at House of Tales. Due to the settings and tasks, we advise against booking the Executioner or One Night in Hong Kong. For the story The Curse of the Pharaoh, you must be able to climb without problems.

Are there different difficulty levels among the stories?

All our stories are a challenge in themselves, as this is the essence of an escape game. Different stories also contain different types of tasks. We are happy to give you personal information about the difficulties of the individual escape rooms. What seems difficult for one player is easy for other players. Are there physical restrictions regarding the stories?

Each story demands not only your mind, but also requires a certain degree of mobility. But don't worry, you don't have to be a high-performance athlete. All players should be able to climb stairs or pass through narrow and low passages. In an escape room you are exposed to acoustic signals as well as light and brightness changes. Our location and games are not barrier-free. If you have specific questions, we are happy to help you by phone.

Are the games suitable for pregnant women?

For advanced pregnancies, we advise against the Executioner and Pharaoh stories. However, you can play the Obsession story without any problems even when heavily pregnant.

Is it scary at House of Tales?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the story, it can get scary in an escape room. We work with light and sound effects, fog and other stage technology. But be careful: The last thing we want is for a participant to feel scared or confined. On the contrary, your team should be able to leave everyday life behind and feel comfortable in an elaborately and detailed designed room. You can always recognize the setting by the details of the story.

What does Versus Mode mean?

For Versus Mode, we provide you with 2 identical escape rooms with the identical story. This means equal conditions for both teams. A team consists of up to 7 players. So you can book Versus Mode with a total of up to 14 players. There is no exchange between the two teams during the game – how you organize a possible competition is entirely up to your imagination. Afterwards, both teams can exchange experiences without revealing too much of the story. We currently offer the story One Night in Hong Kong in Versus Mode.

Question 21

Would it be possible to play an escape room designed for a maximum of 6 players with 7 people?

Accepted Answer

No. Each room has its maximum number of players that we do not exceed. However, it is possible to book another escape room in addition. Simply search our booking calendar for several stories that start at the same time and add the appointments individually to your shopping cart.

Which stories are suitable for which age?

Accepted Answer

Escape rooms are a cross-generational experience. Since we developed our stories for an adult audience, the Executioner and One Night in Hong Kong are not suitable for minors, or only for ages 16 and up. The Curse of the Pharaoh is also suitable for younger players in terms of content. From the age of 14, a game without adult supervision is possible - Obsession and Checkpoint Charlie will challenge you.

What is an Escape Room?

An escape room is the place where your game takes place. We like to use the more appropriate word "story". It is a physical and real room within our location. The goal is to learn more about the story of your room within 1 hour. So that you and your team can solve the given task with the help of additional information found in the room.

Do I play in an escape room only with my friends or do strangers play along?

Every game at House of Tales is a private event, we don't mix teams.

Do I need to wear special clothing?

Accepted Answer

No, dress as you feel comfortable. Within one hour you will move around a lot in the room, so your clothing should not restrict your freedom of movement.

What is the optimal team size for an escape room?

Accepted Answer

For the full experience, we recommend a team size of 3-5 players. But don't worry, you will also get your money's worth in larger and smaller groups.

Do I need prior knowledge to play a story?

No, the games are designed so that you don't need any prior knowledge. With common sense, teamwork and good ideas, all tasks can be mastered. And if you and your team really get stuck, your game master will help you.

What if my team can't solve the puzzle?

Every team is accompanied by a personal game master who introduces you to the story beforehand and answers questions. During the game, your game master is an important part of the experience and can help you if you get stuck.

Is the room locked?

No. Every door can be opened again at any time. For safety reasons, there are emergency exits in every room that provide the fastest way out.

I have a phobia, can I still participate in a game?

That depends entirely on the phobia. We are happy to advise you personally by phone or email. Every game is monitored for the entire duration and can be left at any time through emergency exits.

From what age is participation possible?

A game without adult supervision is possible from the age of 14. When accompanied by adults, we recommend a minimum age of 10 years. However, some stories at House of Tales have an age restriction due to their content and setting.
